We, Islands is an on-going artistic research project. This iteration’s main piece is a Video Installation of a conversation series with three teenagers from the Stockholm Suburbs.

Yazmine was born in Dhaka in 1995. She and her family migrated to Stockholm in 2000 to escape the systematic oppression of Bengali-Hindus in Bangladesh. She grew up in Flemingsberg. Oishi, was also born in Bangladesh and moved to Tensta with her family when she was five years old. Sara, is a second generation immigrant born in Stockholm and is of Kurdish decent. All are in their final year of High School in Sodermalm.

We, Islands attempts to arrive at the potentiality of the “bastard tongue”, its agency and vibrancy within the margins of the un-written word. A growing archive of collected material is also part of this current installation.
